Since this car will only be used for occasional street duty, it needs to go on a diet. Almost all of the interior panels needed to go. Carpet is for pussies! The headliner also came out, and the bare fiberglass was painted flat black for a somewhat finished look. It took some time, but all the un-needed interior parts came out. The stock driver's seat also came out. It wasn't very supportive, and the leather allowed you to slide all over the place. In went an 18" Ultra Shield Pro Road Race seat. It barely fits in the car. the C4 seat mounting area isn't particularly wide, and this is just squeezes in.
The passenger side door panel came off, but the driver's side will have to wait until I can relocate the power window, door lock, and mirror switches. With the steering wheel change, the driver's side airbag also came out, but the passenger side stays until that seat is also upgraded. The stock stereo didn't even work, so off to the trash it went. An aluminum panel will replace it, and hold such things like the OBDII port, window switches, power lock switches, etc.
To help get in and out of the car, a removeable steering wheel setup replaced the stock wheel. I got a Grant wheel off of ebay for a mere $45, and it came recommended by multi-time national auto-x and Pro Solo National Champ Sam Strano. A Summit quick disconnect goes straight onto the column, and makes removing and installing the wheel a breeze. An RCI 6 pt camlock harness is mounted to an Exotic Muscle harness bar.
The stock brakes wouldn't cut it either. Since the car is still somewhat dual purpose while I sort it out, a set of Hawk HP+ pads went on all 4 corners, with ATE Super Blue fluid. While these pads aren't the best setup for serious track use, they are fine for now, and work great when cold. My car has the 'good' J55 brakes. I say 'good' because they really aren't up to serious track use. A C5 upgrade is planned, but wouldn't be ready for first track event.
When I bought the car, I noticed that the steering wheel was off center when driving straight. An alignment fixed that: -1.3 camber front, -1.0 camber rear, 1/8th toe out front, 0 toe rear. Now straight is actually straight.
All LTx C4's got traction control. Crappy traction control. Some testing shows when slip is detected, a motor pulls throttle and the car falls flat on its face. It also defaults to on. Not wanting to end up on track with traction control on, I removed the traction control motor and the 3 throttle cables that go with it. A throttle cable from a 95 Z28 replaces the factory mess, and certainly cleans up the engine bay. Removal of the cruise control servo also frees up some space.
